Printmaking & Bookbinding Workshop
Come and join us for a magical one-day printmaking and bookbinding course!
Sunday 11 May, 10am - 4pm
Sunday 18 May, 10am - 4pm
As we approach the lighter days of the year, we’ll take inspiration in this workshop from the ancient Gaelic sun festival of Beltane. Beltane was traditionally celebrated on the first of May. This festival marked the beginning of summer, and welcomed warmth back into the world.
Working alongside Abbie Lois learn how to carve intricate Lino blocks with traditional tools and print beautiful repeated patterns. Participants will use the block printed papers to make covers for an A6 Coptic Bound book with Kerry Douglas who will teach you how to hand sew and bind a wonderful lay-flat notebook/sketchbook.
Inspiration material for the class will be provided, along with some lore about this festival for you to listen to! Although the day will be inspired by this Gaelic festival, you are of course welcome to be inspired by whatever you’d like for your book, and we encourage you to bring your own reference material for inspiration if you wish.
All tools and materials are provided however participants are welcome to bring along A5 prints or found papers to include within their bindings. Please cut these to size before arriving.
